Purgatoire Valley Trading Company was honored as Small Business of the Year. Located at 113 E. Main St., the business offers western and Native American art, jewelry and furnishings. Opening three-and-a-half years ago, the company evolved from the private collection of Lonnie and Vibeke Adkisson, who own the store at the McCormick building. Lonnie said he hadn't expected to win the award. "I was very surprised that we got this award," Lonnie said. "It had never crossed my mind that we might win. It's a nice honor. We certainly hope that Purgatoire Valley Trading Company is a benefit to the community." The business buys much of its inventory from estates, and the Adkissons' many years of collecting have given them good connections that help them stock their store. The business offers free jewelry appraisals as a public service. When asked why he thought their business had won, Lonnie said it has a lot to do with putting in the needed time. "We're open a lot of hours, including weekends. We do what we say we're going to do, so people know they can depend on us." |
